The Programme
Changing Life-styles is a three year cultural education programme linking
three different schools with groups of older people in the Ards area. The
main aim for participants will be to:
1. develop a sense of pride for their place and the people who live there.
The programme will promote cultural awareness in the Ards by working under
the following headings:

2. encourage respect between cultures in the Ards by exploring commonality
and different life-styles, values, beliefs and traditions of British, Irish,
Ulster Scot, Bangladeshi, Chinese and other peoples.
language, dance, music, housing, fashion, education, sport and leisure.
Under these specific headings, participants will discover how lifestyles
have changed over time by comparing life in the early 1970’s with life
today.
Each year an exhibition will display the research work that groups have
compiled illustrating local culture in the Ards. 'The exhibition will be put
on display and will give others a better understanding of diverse cultural influences on the Peninsula.
In the first year (starting September 2003) Panarts linked young people from
West Winds with older people from West Winds living in the area.
