Learn About Us is a community relations programme which seeks to create cross-community primary school partnerships. The Panarts programme aims to promote mutual understanding, respect for cultural diversity and tolerance of different beliefs and backgrounds.
With support from the EU Peace II Programme administered by Ards Strategy Partnership, Panarts has developed a new project aimed at encouraging communities to learn more about themselves and to discover how other people express their culture through the arts. Ards Cultural Identity Programme includes a series of workshops and concerts looking at different forms of arts expression. Panarts staff are also working on the production of a booklet telling the history of the arts in the Peninsula and the information gathered will be posted on the web site.
In June 2010, Panarts presented a paper at the 'Growing Up in Divided Societies' international conference held at Queen's University Belfast. Organised by the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work at QUB, the paper presented findings from our programme 'Learn About Us'. Chair of Panarts, Joseph Duffy, Director Colin Magee and Anne Coulter delivered the paper to an audience of academics from around the world. Our inter- community work continues in Belfast schools and 'Learn About Us' has had a very positive impact on the lives of many children in Northern Ireland.
